PingMe uses a variety of technologies to locate and track the device whether indoors or outdoors. These are as follows: GPS, Wifi and LBS explained below:
To see what technology the watch is using when you track, look above the pin on the map on your App. You will see a black flyout with tracking information. This is where its labelled what tech the watch is using.
GPS-Global Positioning System
TA space-based navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. Default system when watch is outside. This is the most accurate tracking at 5 - 15m.
Wifi – Making use of wifi port co-ordinates.
If the watch doesn't have a clear GPS signal it has fall back technology that would scan the area for open wifi ports and drop the pin as an indication where the child may be. This is a radius of 5 - 1000km accurate.
LBS – Location Based Services
Utilising the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) tracking utilises Location-Based Services that disclose the actual coordinates of a cellular phone, which is a technology used by telecommunication companies to approximate the location of a cellular phone, and thereby also its user (bearer). The device will communicate wirelessly with the closest cellular phone towers and using a system of interpolation determine the location of the device.
